Sat 14:00 — 23:59
Sun 14:00 — 19:00
On the occasion of Neukölln’s 650th anniversary, once each week from February to December 2010, the ohrenhoch-Kids undertake acoustic rambles - field recording excursions with a tape across the pulsating north of Berlin-Neukölln.
The ohrenhoch-Kids stage and install these Neukölln tape excursions as a special, detailled "soundmap" in the „ohrenhoch“.
As a "work in progress" these field recording expeditions are carried on continually and presented at the „ohrenhoch“ in three stages:
At the 48 Stunden Neukölln in June, at NachtundNebel in November, and at the Adventsparcours in December 2010.
This undertaking of the ohrenhoch-Kids is of revolutionary momentousness as an urban experiment for the 21st century.

This exhibition brings together works of art that deal with how memory negotiates and helps to overcome the past. Silhouette fragments of everyday images linger, leaving visual impressions that are constantly in flux: recognition becomes impossible. Afterimages remain in our synapses, evoking past thoughts and emotions. Thousand-year-old pine trees in Japan become heaps of collective memories. Documentation of clearing out a flat makes recollection and family history tangible.

venue: Altes Museum Neukölln

Fri 19:00 — Sun 19:00
What does Neukölln really look like? What makes you who you are up? Where does Neukölln live? How do we experience you?
100 throw-away cameras travel through the “hood“. Just like a chain letter, we distributed these disposable. cameras randomly. The resulting photographs depict the palette of Neukölln´s people and places. This experimental safari shows how residents perceive their realities and will be on view at the Alten Museum (former museum building) Neukölln.

The Body Communal - "Neukölln buzzes as it lures you", 2010
venue: Karstadt Schnäppchencenter
Fri 19:00 — Sun 19:00
Active particpation is the be all and end all. The title of this window-collage project "Neukölln brummt und lockt" (Neukölln buzzes as it lures you) 2010 plays with the image of one of the main roads in the area, Karl-Marx-Straße, and the remarkable diversity to be found there. The past and present are interwoven through perspective in this video installation. Passers-by are then directly incorporated into the artwork while they look into a shop window, becoming part and parcel of the images that then appear on a new "screen". In the process, they veer between hidden dreams and desires, reality and fiction, becoming elements of the "communal body" of Neukölln.

urban memories
venue: Altes Museum Neukölln

Fri 19:00 — Sun 19:00
To mark this year's 650th anniversary of the founding of Neukölln, this exhibition focusses on the notion of urban memory. Six artists, all from different countries, have come up with participatory and performative projects involving local children, young adults and others who will directly interact with visitors to the show. The title highlights the fact that the area's history consists of numerous histories, from different perspectives, reflecting those of Neukölln's multicultural population.
Featuring: Jean-Ulrick Désert (HAI), Prinz Gholam (D, LBN), Rosa Mesa (E), Judith Siegmund (D), Sençer Vardarman (TRK) and Simone Zaugg (CH).

What was, what is, what lingers
venue: Strahler-Raum für Fotografie

Fri 19:00 — 24:00
Sat 15:00 — 24:00
Sun 15:00 — 19:00
Two women from the same village meet again, making the lasting effects of the past on each evident.
Neumann shows “what is“- the house where her deccased grandfather lived. Next to it are family portraits. She details the powerlessness brought on by confronting the transient nature of life. At that moment, what someone does has no implications for the deceased. How did this begin? What lingers? Where shall I go?
Parlow shows “The Gardener's Silence“ and“How to Deal with Stories set before I existed?“
Inside, they've continued to grow. Desire, hunger, tainted love. She took care of her plants and photographed them to translate the past into the present, to make peace.

The Reuterkiez Banquet Table
venue: Lange Tafel Reuterkiez

Sat 12:00 — 16:00
Fancy you and other guests seated at a 200-metre long dining table to consume spaghetti with lots of other people. For 5 years now, the performing artist Isabella Mamatis has organised an annual spaghetti dinner in Berlin. Pupils at the Rütlicampus and Albert Schweitzer Gymnasiums feature as your hosts, charming waiters and waitresses, entertainers and conductors. This year, the theme is: Contemplating Migration. Artists contribute sounds from different parts of the world for your entertainment while dining. Come with your own plate and silverware to share stories and listen to people’s stories: one of the things humans have been doing from the beginning of time. You can meet the involved pupils’ families, teachers, politicians, people like you and me, businessmen, even our sponsors. Encounters with people you wouldn’t normally meet are the reason for the event.

Fictional texts will result in an associative manner; we'll then discuss the process thereby reaching one's own, individual culmination brimming with interesting discoveries.

Neukölln – it's all Rütli or what?
venue: Rathaus Neukölln
Sat 14:00 — 18:00
Neukölln has made headlines as an area of problems, with many people from abroad who don't want to integrate into society. The fact that our district also offers a lot more is the idea behind this guided tour, concentrating on venues that are important to Turkish-speaking inhabitants, building bridges between Turkish and German residents, between Islam and the “Christian western world“(sic).
We'll visit a fashion botique and a teahouse, shop at a bazaar offering spices where they also roast coffee and admire a barber's t shaving echnique. After visiting a local politician of Turkish descent in his garden, we'll have a guided tour of a mosque as well as the chance to join in prayers. To round it all off, we'll have a Turkish meal together.

What does a potato have to do with Post-Modernism, or Post-Modernism with performance art or performance art with a paradox? These, and other phenomena will be the focus of a lecture-performance examining the nature of performance art, as much as this is possible. It is a game, shifting horizons and making paradoxes apparent. Art, the sciences and bodies move and meet.

Of the 26200 Meiers living in Switzerland, 920 go by the name of Hans Meier. Proving again and again: this name is no claim to fame. Are Meiers all the same? What is the aim of a name? Disdain or acclaim in the identity game? The artist would say, a name is just a frame: contents, backgrounds and colours change to whatever the I and the significant Other behold.
In another part of her artistic involvement with personal identity, the artist creates collages based on media scraps, which she paints in oil. Four scraps make up a story, an aesthetic experience that can take a sudden grip on you: personal, peculiar, paradox.

An exhibition featuring works by a number of different artists in the former Kindl brewery, consisting of 15 perspectives of the notion of “memory“. The link to the subject matter is not always evident at first glance. What all these works have in common is, regardless of whether they show urban spaces, people or bucolic nature, the obvious subjectivity of their perspectives. The photographic works in this show are not mere representations, but, on the contrary, interpretations or even, in some cases, staged “realities“. The exhibition also provokes reflection about how the quantity of images available in the 20th and 21st centuries has altered perceptions of our relationships to "reality".

Not too long ago, a spectacular discovery was made in Rixdorf, arousing the attentions of both scientists and politicians.
A now-forgotten civilisation appears to have lived here around 6 centuries ago in a microcosm, a small clan of around 80 individuals who maintained their distance from outside influences.
Time has stood still there for 650 years.
Anthropologists, ethnographers and numerous other experts from the most diverse disciplines, as well as politicians are now in search of a way to integrate this group into present day Neukölln.
There are a number of ideas of how to best solve this dilemma...

School pupils present results of their artistic intervention on Sat. 2–5pm and make a survey on Sun. 2-5pm on Platz der Stadt Hof.
Karl-Marx-Str. is centre of a regeneration program. The Planning Office is marketing the street as "young, colourful & successful“. Hearing that, the young want their say. They are developing political and aesthetical ideas for the street’s future. For 48-Stunden they respond to the current architecture competition for Platz der Stadt Hof.

Urban Yodelling – Neukölln-Concert
venue: Reuter31

Sun 15:00 — 16:00
Despite the common misconception, yodelling is not limited to the Alps! It is also a tradition in (former Soviet-) Georgia, Mongolia, Ethiopia, Columbia, Palestine, among the Inuit in Alaska, on the Solomon-Islands, Hawaii, in Panama, on the Japanese island of Hokkaido and among the Sápmi in Finland. And in Neukölln. For three years now, there has been a yodelling choir in Berlin, comprised of around 50 yodellers who meet twice a month at the Austrian director and Transalpin-project singer, Ingrid Hammer’s studio to participate in global yodelling. All are welcome, even without a degree in yodelling (www.transalpin-web.de).

roses (memories of stones and string)
venue: Atelier Kirkara

Sun 16:00 — 16:40
petra lang’s performance is dedicated to her aunt rosmarie, who was the typical “black sheep“ of the family. every family has both a black sheep and a secret. there is energy in all secrets. all these contained energies function as place-savers, which offer following generations the chance to occupy these spaces. this makes it possible for new blood to take over from old energies.
petra lang works with simple materials, such as photographs, chalk, string, a few words, interior and exterior spaces (a shop window and the street).

Cultural events in the Reuterquartier area have, over the last few years helped to change the neighbourhood. For that reason, northern of North Neukölln will delve into the 48 STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN theme , “Komplex 650“ by looking at the impact of these changes with the theme “runderneuert“ (remodeled). How change manifests itself will be explored while bicycling about.
