Welcome to 48 Stunden Neukölln 2011
LUXUS NEUKÖLLN
From 17 - 19 June, 2011 (7 pm- 7 pm) Neukölln is where you'll find an abundance of art exhibitions, theatre, dance and performance, readings, guided tours and parties. These activities take place in the streets and other public spaces, in garden allotments and parks in Neukölln, in addition to galleries, theatres, artists' studios and neighbourhood centres, pubs, private flats and a number of other, often unexpected locations in the district.
Were you aware of the fact that there's a prison in Neukölln, hidden behind the district courthouse, in a courtyard? This building will be open to the public for the first time and c. 40 artists will react to the space. There's also an enormous amount of activity on at the former Kindl-Brauerei (brewery). Additionally, Kiez International (Berlin's longest running intercultural street fair) will again, this year, be organised by people from Neukölln from the most diverse backgrounds, cordially inviting all to get involved, even to sing and dance along!
There are a lot of new things to experience during this year's 48 Stunden Neukölln. By clicking “Programme“ on this website, you can navigate your own route, with nearly 600 events to choose from at 330 venues. You can now take advantage of our “shopping list” function to select and then print out your own festival schedule.
Another innovation this year is the competition for a juried “art” prize and an audience award for 48 Stunden Neukölln. Select your favourite from the nominated 42 highlights! Festival ballots can be found at each Infopoint, or vote online at www.neukoellner-nachrichten.de
We wish you a wonderful journey as you discover all manner of art in a variety of venues,
Your 48 Stunden Team

Greeting from WOLFGANG JOOP
48 Stunden Neukölln is the embodiment of principles of personal freedom. It was precisely that sort of atmosphere that tempted me to settle in New York in the 1970s. We, the generation that grew up in the oppressive atmosphere directly after WWII and the limited geographical boundaries of my divided home country, were in search of a sense of freedom. Established norms and the notion of setting one's self up in as safe as way as possible were questioned and then abandoned. My generation embarked on a path of individual experimentation. Over the years, during the course of my career, I have often had to reconsider where I was headed and then set off for unknown pastures.
